Законченный, отъявленный, закоренелый. Первоначально в шерстяной промышленности использовались нестойкие красители для шерстяных тканей, что создавало большую проблему. Позже было сделано открытие, что если шерсть покрасить перед тем, как изготовить изделие, то краска будет более стойкой и не будет линять. Эта фраза используется как прилагательное в контексте, относящемся к политическим взглядам, убеждениям: a dyed-in-the-wool Conservative/Communist/Labourite — закоренелый, твердолобый коммунист/консерватор/лейборист.
